The OpenFlexure Microscope

The OpenFlexure Microscope is an automated tissue scanner which can be built anywhere in the world.

The Challenge

Digital microscopy, and especially automated tissue scanners, are conventionally extremely expensive and difficult to maintain.
In many areas of the world, scanners are either unsuitable for the budget, resources and training of the pathology lab, or entirely unavailable.

A lack of reliable, accessible testing is one of the leading causes of preventable deaths due to cancer.

The OpenFlexure Microscope

The OpenFlexure Microscope is an automated tissue scanner, made from 3D printed parts and suitable for assembly anywhere in the world.
The simple design, low cost and powerful software make it an ideal platform for making digital pathology more accessible around the world.

OpenFlexure and Global Health

We're very proud of our work in Butare, Rwanda, installing four OpenFlexure Microscopes in the pathology department of CHUB hospital.
This video covers the motivation and results of this work.
